Work year: 185 days

Duties: Under the direction of the appropriate administrator, the School Nurse provides specialized health services to support the health, safety, and educational needs of students. Primary responsibilities include: 

• Conduct mandated student vision and hearing screenings and follow up on identified concerns
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized student health care plans
• Attend Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, as appropriate, to provide health-related information and recommendations
• Maintain accurate health records and provide required documentation to support the district's Medi-Cal billing program
• Obtain, review, and clarify physician orders and other health-related documentation as needed
• Train and provide ongoing support to Health Care Aides in first aid, and specialized health care procedures
• Perform and/or supervise specialized health care procedures in accordance with physician orders and applicable regulations
• Collaborate with students, families, teachers, administrators, health care providers, and other school personnel to address student health needs
• Provide health education, consultation, and guidance to students and staff as appropriate
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and District policies governing student health services
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
• Current and valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license
• California School Nurse Credential or eligibiilty and willingness to obtain the credential within five (5) years of employment
• CPR/First Aid certification
• Experience working with children and/or students in a school, pediatric, or community health setting is desirable
• Ability to work with students with varied disabilities
